Before You Start That Kitchen Remodel…

Last week, we featured some helpful tips on how to prepare for a bathroom remodel. But what if your kitchen is the focus? We’ve got tips for that too!

1. Plan ahead – Good design is the key to a fully functional and stunning kitchen remodel.  Make sure all elements work with each other. Doors should not bang into each other. There should be enough clearance to walk comfortably. Appliance doors should be able to open fully. Planning really shouldn’t be a DIY venture. Leave measurements to a professional.

2. Consider sticking with one brand – Rules were made to be broken, but some homeowners and designers insist on using one brand for certain features throughout the kitchen.  Consistency is an important element of good design.  And it’s very difficult (and sometimes impossible) to get truly matching colors when you buy from different manufacturers.  What brand do you prefer for kitchen fixtures? 3. Choose a single focal point – A beautiful kitchen is not cluttered with dozens of stunning visuals, but a single eye-catching piece adds enough interest without overwhelming the viewer.  Choose one feature that wows – a fascinating backsplash, a unique hanging light fixture, an exquisite wall mural or some other gorgeous addition to a kitchen.  Then, add subtle accents that complement your single display piece.
