Spring Update Idea: Lighting at the Front Door
Most homes built within the last decade come with lighting fixtures mounted on either side of the front door. And there’s a reason for this predictable placement. Not only are pairs of fixtures the most popular way to light an entryway, but imagine how strange and inadequate it would look to have just one fixture? Well, maybe not that bad, actually.
These tips might help you to get the lighting at your front door just right this spring:
- Sometimes, an entryway might call for just one fixture, depending on the architecture of the outter space. If this is the case for you, be sure to place the fixture on the same side of the door as the doorbell. This will ensure that you can clearly see whoever has arrived.
- If the front door is under a porch or other cover you may want to consider a hanging lantern of some sort instead.
- Choose a fixture that is 1/3 the height of the door if using only one fixture and 1/4 the height of the door if using two.
